Okay, here we go

So … tonight makes 24 hours since my last cigarette.  Some recent changes in my daily routine (with a few more changes coming in the next couple weeks), have opened up the door for me to start concentrating on working out and to really start building the body that I want.  I am going to give it a few days for the smoking to leave my body, then I will gradually work my way back into muscle building.  I can’t just jump back into it … it’s been 8 months at “a pack-a-day” since I have been to the gym.  Gotta pace myself back into this, I am no spring chicken.

But the good news is that I have approximately the same physique that I had when I stopped working out 8 months ago.  I am at about the same weight with the roughly the same muscle mass, and body fat.  Somehow through simply eating right, and what little exercise I actually do get … I guess I have been able to maintain.  The next couple of weeks should prove interesting.

The goal: pack on 10-15 pounds of muscle mass, while staying as lean as I am.  To give you an idea of where I am at right now, I am a 37 year old male, 5′-11″, 165 pounds (approximately).

To back track a little bit, by June of 2009, I had gotten as heavy as 190 pounds.  One of the results of my “fall” (explained in this post), ended up with me getting into shape (too long of a story to explain here).  And in just 3 months, with just a change in diet, and the addition of an exercise routine, I had lost 30 pounds!  I was down to 160!  At that point, I had decided to switch gears and adapt my diet and exercise modes towards muscle gain.  Got up to about 165, then at some point, it all came to a screeching halt.  It’s been while since then, and my life has led me to a place where I am in a position to pick up where I left off.
